Website Recommendations for Healthcare Travelers.

We would like to recommend these sites to you, both for pre-planning your assignment, as well as making the most of your travel experience.  There is a wealth of information here that, we think, will help you make the most of your free time during your assignment.

Yahoo Travel has "travel guides" that provide detailed information on cities around the world including attractions, restaurants, photos videos and hotel reservations.

TripWizer allows you to search for locations and then gives you info, photos and user travel logs.

Wiki Travel is a wealth of user-submitted-information. Lots of it are in the form of articles written by other travelers. There is a search box on the left of the page to get your started.

Virtual Tourist has a good selection of travel reviews in major cities around the world. It's not much help with smaller locations.

Roadside America is full of offbeat, strange, quirky and usually fun stuff. It focuses on small towns you might drive through on you way to an assignment so check it out and it might make your trip more enjoyable.

GORP - Great Outdoors Recreational Pages - is for people that love the outdoors. It covers all the major parks as well as lots of smaller treasures.

This site is for outdoor lovers going on assigment in the San Francisco Bay Area. It has some great day hikes for exploring on your day off.

This site is put together by a photographer, Leon Turnbull, and it is a great reference to waterfalls in the western united states.

Dogster is a social networking site for dogs and their humans but it's also a great reference to dog parks and other dog friendly places and people.  It's a great place to meet people to go dog walking with too.

Bring Fido will help you find dog friendly hotels and attractions as you travel. This is the place to start when you want to find an off-leash park or dog friendly beach.

bing Maps (by Microsoft) is pretty standard as far as mapping but it has an excellent "bird's eye view" feature that let's you see the world from the view of a low flying plane. We think this is a great adjunct to Google Street View for getting your bearings in a new place.

Google Maps with Street View is the standard in mapping and we highly recommend it.

Weather.com by The Weather Channel is a great reference wherever you are in the world.

Hotspotr will help you find free WiFi almost anywhere in the country and marks it for you on a Google map.

ATMs are almost everywhere but this site is great if you want to find the closest one to where you live or work.
