A Labor and Delivery RN offers a balance of the same elements that are found in critical care, operating room, emergency department and pediatric nursing. A Labor and Delivery RN must have excellent communication skills because they are the link between the patient, family members and the doctor. A Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse must be able to think quickly and make decisions quickly. Labor and Delivery Nurses assist the physician and spend many hours on their feet.
As a L&D Registered Nurse some of your responsibilities consist of:
Assessing contractions, dilation, heart rates, etc.
Performing follow-up duties which include:
Analyzing the newborns general condition.
Checking the mothers condition.
Watching for signs of trouble.
Checking for signs of infections and any other troubles.
One year of experience as a Labor and Delivery RN within the past two years.
Current Nursing License in good standing.
Up to date Basic Life Support from American Heart Association.
