Albuquerque is the largest city in New Mexico.  In 2008, AAA rated Albuquerque as the second least expensive vacation spot in the U.S. so it's definitely a place where you can live well for less.  Central Avenue through Albuquerque is part of the original Route 66 that once brought travelers across America and it takes you across the city from the volcanoes on the west side, past the Rio Grande Botanical Grands, the Albuquerque Aquarium, the historic Old Town and on to Nob Hill area with its upscale restaurants and trendy shopping.  For nine days in October, the city hosts the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta where the skies are filled with hundreds of hot air balloons.  But the calm weather of Albuquerque makes it a great place to ride and see hot air balloons year-round.

Albuquerque's central location makes it an excellent starting point for day trips to explore the diversity that makes up New Mexico.  To the north-east of Albuquerque is the city of Santa Fe and the historic town of Taos.  Santa Fe and Taos are both places for people that love art and culture.  Taos, gets it name from the Taos Pueblo which is a multi-storied adobe complex that has been continuously inhabited for over 1,000 years and has been designated an UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In the south-eastern part of the state is Carlsbad Caverns National Park which preserves and protects some of the most beautiful and largest caves in the world (also designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site). The south-east is Roswell New Mexico, site of the famous Roswell UFO Incident of 1947.  Whether you believe there was a government cover up of a UFO crash or not, Roswell can be lots of fun.

New Mexico has lots to offer lovers of the outdoors.  Mountain hiking, snow skiing and winter sports attract people to the northern regions while the beautiful desert, scattered with ancient ruins, attract hikers and bikers to the south.  New Mexico has wonderfully relaxing hot springs scattered across the state and has some of the best golf courses in the world.

If you hate fun in the sun, don't go to New Mexico.  Otherwise, New Mexico is an incredible place for registered nurses to live, work and play!
