Texas is paradise for outdoor recreation too.  Beach lovers flock to South Padre Island but Big Bend National Park is a hidden gem in the national park system.  Big Bend is a huge park along the Rio Grande border with Mexico and it has tall mountains, deep canyons and deserts where the cactus flower while the northern U.S. is blanket in snow.  Because it's one of the least visited national parks, Big Bend is a special treat for people that want to enjoy nature in solitude.
